Decluttering

I lost all the images to my blog due to a glitch somehow. :( It will take me so much time to re-upload them all that I have decided to start a new blog and leave this for what it is.
 *
Having just moved houses and still unpacking boxes (sigh) I have decided to start de-cluttering my life both in real life and on line. I am aiming to take at least little steps each and every day towards this goal.....The first step is consolidating the amount of sites I keep. So this particular blog I will end and keep going HERE Thank you all for having been following me on this site and I hope you will come over to the other place :D
(also.....I lost all my images from this blog for some mysterious reason and don't have the time and energy to start putting them all back in the old posts, sorry....)

at Peace

I have been playing a little bit with my Fresco techniques again. There are still a couple in progress in the studio, but this one I finished yesterday. She is a Madonna inspired iconic portrait in true Fresco on linen stretched on cradled board. There is gold leaf in the halo, I made the sides look aged with my faux verdigris/patina combination and finished her with a cold wax protective layer

she is available here

Time flies......

I saw "Frida" -the movie on TV the other day. I had seen this movie before, but that was a while ago now. It inspired me to make something Frida-ish again....she sold within a day.
Time flies when you're having fun.
♥
hehe, I heard a little innocent joke about two frogs:
One frog says to the other:" Time's fun when you're having flies..."
I had to laugh, I love frogs and I like simple jokes. The world is too dark as it is.
 ♥
But anyway....what I wanted to share with you today is this: I have been really really busy with lots of things and have not been able to find proper time to blog at all. I manage to quickly throw things on my Facebook page though, but that's about it. (So check out my page here if you want to see the quick posts) I am teaching lots of art classes and preparations (and patching up help in between) takes up quite a bit of my "spare" time. I desperately wish for some "me" art time and even that seems to be a little rushed, although..........see, there's the thing.....every disadvantage comes with opportunities and I am at a stage with my art that I actually wish for some "loosening up" in my works and not having an abundance of time to work on a project makes it so I HAVE to loosen up and accept the imperfect in my eyes as being a finished work. And I am studying different painting styles again and practicing when I can (see HERE) Stay posted I will share what I am up to of course, but for now, if you don't see anything here, check out (and "like" my page)

Finally 20 minutes

Today we had torrential rainfall and the studio was nice and quiet.
Finally I could set my timer to do "20 minute paintings" I have been so busy with preparations for my classes, meetings, preparations for next schoolterm, catching up on work etc. that I hadn't even be able to find time for 20 minutes works. I was craving for some "me" painting, don't get me wrong, I am happy doing what I do, but sometimes I feel like I am forever making samples (which are quick paintings in their own right of course) but they are not really "my" paintings if you get what I mean ? They are technical examples for the students to learn from, so often they are not completely finished either, to show the process rather than just the finished work. So when my friend Jane Spakowsky came up with the solution of doing 20 minute paintings, I really felt like doing some. But wow, is it HARD !!!!! 20 minutes goes by so quickly when you're doing a portrait......I normally spend quite some time fiddling on portraits until I am happy. But... well, eventhough I was itching to change some things or add some things, I stopped when the buzzer sounded and here she is :
"Miss Sadie with Flowers" - 29 x 38 cm on wood

and then I quickly did a cardboard box for another sample becuase I still had to prepare for next week which is schoolholidays here and I always run art classes for kids in the holidays : A peacock

Dwellings

Dwellings II 40x60 cm / 16x24 inch

Dwellings I 20x30 cm / 8x12 inch

With this warm weather (they call it a proper drought now) still going on here, I feel myself thinking about deserts more and more. I love deserts, they are not just sand and the ones I have visited were really beautiful, I have warm memories (pun not intended ;) These two mixed media works are very much inspired by desert-like, warm places... desolate... still, but the dust is flying in hot dry air....I really enjoyed making these, hope you like them too ♥

Summertime.....this painting gives me that feeling, a sort of a Mother Earth again, this time inspired by the beautiful Pohutukawa trees that grow and flower abundantly around this place where we live. They line the bays and the beaches and gaze peacefully over the ocean

Kidnap

I will never really understand people..... This art healing doll I made and called "Hurt" carries a bit of my soul obviously. Yes, I would have sold him, but instead he's been taken and that doesn't feel right. I hope he'll get wrapped up nicely and put under a Xmas tree somewhere, to help someone else get a bit of healing. Still.....I never got to hand him over and give his little "birth" story to the new owner ....
