Dare to be Free

'Dare to be free' - oil on canvas 12 inch square

This painting is a play with my oils and a semi-abstract idea. Also there is a dried flower made golden and Sgraffito. Finished the top of the painting with a cold wax protective layer that encapsules the flower at the same time.

On my easels

After a very busy week teaching kids-holiday art classes, I had a lovely quiet day by myself in my studio. And after cleaning up stuff from the week and sorting through things and preparing for next week of more holiday classes, I finally also cleared my mind, got back into the zone and decided to play with my oil paints all day.

Yay ! worked on two unfinished canvasses I had started a while ago and started another small one. Since they probably are going to take a bit of time to be finished still,  I thought this time to share these works in progress

Oil

No I am not talking about oil as in oil-paint, but oil as in oil spill. I just needed to release my frustration and quickly do a page in my journal about the oil spill that is happening here after a containership hit a reef in front of my new hometown last week. The ship is not in a great shape and needed to be abandoned for days because of bad weather and is leaking crude oil and the beaches are now black and the seabirds are dying and the ocean is polluted, it is the biggest ecological disaster New Zealand has ever known. I have decided I do NOT like 2011 and wish for the new year to come quickly.
