Oil

No I am not talking about oil as in oil-paint, but oil as in oil spill. I just needed to release my frustration and quickly do a page in my journal about the oil spill that is happening here after a containership hit a reef in front of my new hometown last week. The ship is not in a great shape and needed to be abandoned for days because of bad weather and is leaking crude oil and the beaches are now black and the seabirds are dying and the ocean is polluted, it is the biggest ecological disaster New Zealand has ever known. I have decided I do NOT like 2011 and wish for the new year to come quickly.

Love of Nature

Before I do another post with my latest finished painting (...yes it is coming along soon...) I thought to share this little happy thought with you all. Maybe you remember? I did a post not so long ago about Heart-shaped   Rocks that I found in the riverbeds in the South Island. This time I was taking the kids for a walk in the area we moved to recently and....we found these clovers with heart shapes in their leaves, just had to photograph them and take some home to put in my flowerpress ! Mother Nature shares her love in unexpected places, I hope I can find them all, it's almost like a treasure-hunt (just didn't manage to find a 4 leaf clover amongst them all, ah well ;)

Contemplating..........................Nature vs Nurture...

Here's the latest journal entry in my Mermaid Journal/Sketchbook
I've been working on this one off and on for a little bit now
and I think I finished her
She is thinking about beliefs about drawing and art
and about Nature vs Nurture
... or...
does someone have a gift for creativity
or can it be nurtured /taught ?

I have written in her hair:
"Think.feel.see.create.express~joy.regrets.secrets~
every spot part of my shadow~
every line it's own meaning~
drawing.sketching.painting
HOW could an Artist live without ?""My first Art teacher in Highschool wrote in my poetry booklet:
If one wants to draw, one does not need to have talent
but curiosity and warm attention for everything around"So I used a small copy of this on my right page, to remember this.
