I have a question for you, I am wondering, pondering, questioning....myself, the universe, I don't know, I don't often blabber a lot here on my blog, I am a rather personal person (I am an INFP and a 4), but this question burns....
Does THIS happen to you too sometimes ? ...You start a
painting, you have this idea, a framework more than anything else....you
start, it grows, then you get stuck - for whatever unclear reason- then
you continue and you decide to add or omit something that you had
planned for the painting at an earlier stage, and why ? not for any
reason in particular, just because, because it feels the right thing to
do and then the reason reveals itself and the painting starts to tell
you all kinds of hidden secrets, stories that you had not made up for
it, but it tells them to you nevertheless and they are not all pleasant
either, or you suddenly see them and it creaps you out.....does that
happen to you too ? ...sometimes ? Now, do I need to finish this
painting ? or throw a sheet over it and leave it to keep its thoughts to
itself and start something new....I wonder

Don't be affraid of your unconscious Joyce if you let it just come to the edge of your awareness you can work with it and come to really know you. I have certainly been there and now just let it be. Even though I may not see that work as what I had wanted it is often becomes my best art as it is so pure. If we paint what we plan it is often what we feel is expected from us rather than what we really are. I hope it helps you about feeling stuck if you can bear it go with it. Manon xx
I can't put it to words any better than Manon did about the unconscious. On getting stuck..I plow through because it is harder for me to return to a painting if I let it sit too long.
I agree.....trudge forth and carry on.....make something out of those whispers that screams with pride :)
Yes, it happens to me, and I'm sure it happens to every painter. Unless you're painting from an image, you really have no direction except where your brain and creativity takes you. As for "is this painting finished?" Again, that's up to you. Personally I like to have a focal point in my paintings, so your painting above looks like a background to me. A lovely background none the less, lol.
