A little strange to you Northern Hemispherers, but if you read my last post, you know: it's warm here now 22 °C (72 F) This year the kids wanted to be Sally from Tim Burton's "Nightmare before Christmas" and the Plague Ghost with a steampunkish face mask. So "in between" all else that I have going on at the moment, I managed to whip up the leather (okay imitation-leather) mask and the dress and after work today, facepaint Sally (without time for a proper dinner of course) to go trick or treating with the kids and get sweets and lollies instead. Oh but it is fun though, seeing them proud of their dress-ups and stuff. It's good to be a creative mum :)

When we just arrived at the beach.... |
I love Halloween, I love everything about it, the colours, the decorations, the fun stuff, the creepy stuff....... I didn't grow up in a HalloWeenie kinda country though, but still it was Northern Hemisphere and fall and all and the feeling was right. Now I have been here on the Southern half of the globe for quite some time now and eventhough I dress up the kids and we go trick or treating with some friends and some people actually do celebrate Halloween, it's soooo different in summer weather.
So this year already, I had a hard time getting into the groove so to speak, also I had (have) a little artistic block feeling and I started to make some guardian Angels and I love the Angels at the moment, so who am I really kiddin' here ? Trying to make myself go all Halloweenie this year doesn't feel "on the menu" Today I went to the beach to try and find more nice driftwood for my Angels, I did take little Jackooooo with me though and set him down in the dunes......He didn't look too happy, so I built him a haunted cave structure
.......still not too pleased. I went looking for some friends for him....and I did find some beaut bones and potential creeps among the driftwood

Before we got to know them..... |
just lookie here: I think he enjoyed that last little bit of the party the best...... I contemplated leaving him behind as a sort of abandoned art project, but his face just yelled out at me ! There's always next year !! Keep me, we'll make some great celebrations then ! So ok he went home with me again and I will add him to the other orange decorations in the house ;)
Happy Halloween y'all !!!!

A Halloween Party with a twist - or - "The Witch and the Quest for Jack"
A Halloween Party with a twist
or
"The Witch and the Quest for Jack"
One late Halloween's Eve the witch was at her stove busy stirring and brewing her creams and potions. Smoke was emitting form under the lids and steam was puffing all around her, she had tears in her eyes.
Her black cat BOO sat in the corner,
She knew her witch was crying because she had found a rusty box that morning filled with photographs and postcards from her grand old granny MegsieMae.
She'd been looking for batwings, dragonskins and toadeyes.
Now you have to understand that this witch was all alone in her neck of the woods and no pumpkins grew this time of year, so she'd decided to brew this concoction to change her broom into a time traveling vehicle as described in one of Grannies recipes (flying broomsticks, ha, what would they be thinking of next ?) She'd go back in time to Gran's time and go to one of them gatherings, yeah.
The potion was ready now and she conjured up the spell, but it backfired and next to the sweep appeared a dragon to her surprise? Ah well, ever the adapting witch she decided to ride the beast instead. So she gave him a spoonful of the other potion and took a sip herself and *Swish*~~~~ next minute she found herself in a cold dark damp swamp at the foot of a deserted castle, this must have been Gran's swamp ! There were pumpkins to be found
and she quickly picked her Jack and set off to find the gathering of Witches to finally have a real Halloween herself !

Thank you Vanessa for hosting this spooky feast

Dusting off more memories
Well, you probably know I have recently moved house, and I am still unpacking and I keep finding these funny old things. Some I decide to throw away (why did I ever save them ?) others make me sit down and think for a while, remembering. These were some of those, they are a bunch of dry needle etches I made ages ago at high school with my Art teacher (he was a great man) I was allowed to stay after school and play with these copperplates and his precious etch press. I loved it ! I almost forgot I still had these and even with some prints ! One of them is a skull, I remember I got a real skull from somewhere (don't have that one anymore) but I etched theat skull into one of the copperplates. Very Halloween-y I know, isn't that a coincidence ? Anyway, before I start on some other boxes, I thought to share these with you.

The Murky Waters Nixie

I will have to photograph her tomorrow with daylight.
I am not an aquarel expert by all means, but I did this one on watercolourpaper with watercolour paint and pencils and then I added inks, stamps, acrylics, glaze, more watercolouir paint and at last some Golden glass bead gel which I covered with some more diluted sparkly paints.
She is my "Halloween" project for this year,

She is my "Halloween" project for this year,
since I am all submerged with the water sprites.....
